Program Incompatibility issue: |
|
|
We program our CD Card contents for Windows™ based operating
systems on PC compatible computers. Some functions and
features on our program can be compromised due to different
operating systems, software settings and different types of
computers. Hybrid Macintosh/PC (HFS/ISO 9660) CD-ROMs may
cause incompatible PC program functions on Mac, and different
versions of Mac OS. Some of these incompatibilities are
intended by the OS makers. For instance, Macintosh’s new
operating system doesn’t like auto executable CDs due to virus
problems. So these hybrid CDs can run fine on old versions of
Mac OS and PC but not on the new “OS X” of Mac. We can
override this incompatibility by auto running Quicktime™ but
many users disable this feature due to a few Mac viruses.
PC and Mac incompatibility issue is not news and it’s been
there since the beginning of these two, the Apple and MS,
companies. CdCardX uses two different methods to create hybrid
CDs. One is creating 2 different sets of programs, one for the
PC and one for the Mac. This method works the best but the
development cost also doubles. We only recommend this method
for large corporations with big budgets. The other method for
creating hybrid CDs is converting PC programs to PC and Mac
hybrid. This works fairly well but some PC command languages
only work on PC environments causing some program
malfunctions. This conversion method is also not for small
budget projects because we have to minimize the
incompatibilities as much as possible. Either methods create
larger file size, almost double the size of original file, and
sometimes it’s not possible for regular 50mb CD Card to
handle.
CdCardX tries its best to provide most compatible CD Card
content development service in the industry. However, some of
this incompatibility is beyond the industry’s capacity to
override for the moment. For small budget CD Card project we
only offer PC compatible content development service and we do
not offer any hybrid CDs without liability waver consent due
to liability and development cost reasons. |
